I purchased this refurbished GPS. This model has alot of great features and I would recommend it. The only problem I encountered was when I first received and started using it, the system would freeze up on me while in use. I went to the Magellan website and I needed to upgrade the firmware for free. This resolved the issue of the system freezing up.

In the past, all of my purchase experience of refurbished item were great. They all looked new. However, when I received this unit, I noticed few very minor scratches here and there. It looked like a returned item. But the overall looks of this unit was very nice, so I decided to keep it and give it a try. Worked fine for about a year. . . although I used it for no more than 3 trips. On my last trip to San Francisco, it stopped working! I stopped at restaurant to take a lunch break. Then when I pushed the switch to turn it on, it just would not turn on. Oh Sh@t!, I said. I gave up after 30 minutes trying. Since this was my first visit to San Francisco, I wanted see the Golden Gate Bridge and other attractions. . . . . but now I just wanted to get back to my hotel in Monterey Bay. How? I don't know how to get back to Fwy. Oh Sh@t! again. I remembered that I brought my old Roadmate 360, just in case, in the back trunk. I was relieved. But 360 can not get signal. Another 30 minutes in the car waiting for signal. No luck. . Oh Sh@t again. Then I remembered that my wife had Apple Iphone 3G. Yes, this worked! But my wife does not know how to use or read the navigation. While trying to teach my wife how to use/read the map, the 360 got the signal and start working!!! But the Downtown streets of San Francisco are narrow and too many one-way strets. The people are walking all over the place, even the signal is RED!! I am from Los Angeles and definetely not used to this. 360 was not much help. I was going round in circle. By the time I got to Fisherman's it was already 4:30pm!!! Left restaurant at 12:30pm. Ended up going back to hotel after that. But before heading back, I gave a last try on 4250. It turned on! Finally! I was able to get back home to Los Angeles using 4250. I really don't know what happened. But I really can not rely on this unit or any of Magellan unit anymore. When this unit is working, I LOVE it! Looks really nice and slim. Easy to use. . . and that's a plus. I really don't care about the extras.

I would have wanted to know that the item was not new as indicated.

Amazon completely misrepresented this item as new in the listing when it was actually refurbished. I realized this only after the order had been confirmed. After I complained, they did essentially nothing.

I have been using the item for less than a month and now there are problems with it. There is a splotch on the internal screen that seems to be getting worse. I now have to send it back to Magellan for service and the whole purchase has become a pain.

In short, don't trust Amazon listings -- and get a Garmin.
